Protecting A Woman's Right to Choose

Before 1973, women still had abortions, but by making them legal, Roe made them far safer. With federal protections set to be overturned, state legislatures must step up. We need to codify women’s right to safe and legal abortion in federal law. Abdelnasser believes that ensuring safe and legal access to abortion is non-negotiable and is endorsed by Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. The longtime Congresswoman praised Rashid by saying "Abdelnasser will always protect a woman's right to choose."

Commonsense Gun Laws

The heartbreaking mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas stole the lives of young schoolchildren. This is tragically—and shamefully—not an isolated incident. It is the 212th mass shooting of 2022 in the United States. Republicans in Congress have stood by as horrific mass shootings terrorize communities throughout our country. Here in Illinois, we can do more, too. We need to ban the sale of assault rifles and high-capacity magazines, and address the backlog in background checks. On the federal level, among many other reforms, Congress needs to repeal immunity granted to gun manufacturers.

Lower Property Taxes

Abdelnasser will fight to stop corrupt insiders from gaming the property tax system, forcing working, middle-class families and seniors to pay too much. Abdelnasser also supports expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit and creating a state Child Tax Credit.

Public Safety

Invest in community-centered public safety by supporting the Crime Reduction Task Force, which will work with law enforcement, legal and criminal justice professionals, and crime victims and witnesses to address the root causes of violence.

We must increase state funding for public education to reduce the overreliance on property taxes and give every child an opportunity to thrive.

Rein in Corporate Price Gouging

Costs of food, housing and gasoline have risen faster than inflation, while incomes have not kept up pace. Big corporations are using inflation as an excuse to make record profits at our expense.

Take on Public Utility Corruption

Utility companies have given millions in political donations and have been allowed to make record profits by hiking gas and electricity rates. Abdelnasser will not stand by as they continue to squeeze Illinois families.
