Reinvesting in Our Economy

• Rep. Rashid knows strengthening our economy begins with rebuilding our infrastructure. Abdelnasser has strongly backed the Rebuild Illinois program, which is investing $45 billion in roads, bridges, railroads, universities, early childhood centers, and other facilities – creating and supporting 540,000 jobs.

Supporting Working Families

• Rep. Rashid is standing up to big insurance and drug companies and fighting to lower healthcare costs for our families. Abdelnasser has worked to protect access to healthcare for patients with preexisting conditions, cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month, stop pharmaceutical companies from price-gouging on essential medicines, and crack down on big insurance companies that raise rates for no reason.

• Rep. Rashid is a strong voice for working families. Abdelnasser is standing up for good jobs that pay family-sustaining wages, equal pay for working women, and paid family leave and sick leave for Illinois workers.

• Rep. Rashid knows that Illinois’ economy has a serious shortage of workers for high-paying jobs in the skilled trades, healthcare, and other fields. Abdelnasser passed new funding to expand vocational education and is working to create new pathways to apprenticeships and skills training.

Protecting a Woman's Right to Choose

• Rep. Rashid is fighting to protect women’s access to reproductive healthcare in Illinois, no matter what the Supreme Court or extreme politicians in Washington do. Abdelnasser worked to expand access to emergency contraception and to pass protections for patients forced to travel to Illinois from states that have banned abortions.

Gun Safety

• Rep. Rashid is standing up to the gun lobby and passing common sense gun safety laws to save lives. Abdelnasser supports the ban on military-style assault weapons in Illinois and has voted to hold gun manufacturers accountable for the marketing and distribution of illegal weapons, to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, and to strengthen funding for youth gun violence prevention programs.

• Rep. Rashid is a committed leader in the struggle to end violence against women. Abdelnasser supports investing in domestic violence shelters and mental and physical healthcare for survivors, strengthening gun safety laws to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, and fighting to prevent a backlog of untested rape kits to hold predators accountable.

Education

• Rep. Rashid believes all our kids deserve a world-class education, from early childhood to college or career training. Abdelnasser worked to fully fund Smart Start Illinois to expand access to preschool, to strengthen local K-12 schools by passing fair school funding and increasing state investment, and to make college more affordable and expand vocational training to prepare students for high-wage jobs.
